First floor, the corner of the quay
One room, on the corner where the quay meets the lane. Windows on two walls mean the light moves round it all day, and in the evening the barges slide past at about the height of the bed. It was the merchant's counting room, and it still feels like the best place in the house to sit and think about money, or not.
We keep a turntable here with a crate of thirty records chosen by the bar. Some of them are excellent. The bath taps are unlacquered brass and they will age, as they should.
